Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about mental health treatment at Hayat Medical Centre.
Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist?
No referral is needed. You can contact us directly at any time by calling or WhatsApp-ing 0345-1511843. Our team will guide you through the process and arrange a convenient appointment.
Is treatment completely confidential?
Yes. All consultations, assessments and records are strictly confidential. Your information will not be shared with anyone — including family members — without your explicit consent. There are very limited legal exceptions (for example, immediate risk of serious harm), and we will discuss these with you if they apply.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a fully qualified medical doctor who has completed postgraduate specialisation in psychiatry. Psychiatrists can diagnose mental health conditions and, where clinically appropriate, prescribe medication — in addition to providing therapy.
A psychologist holds an advanced degree in psychology and focuses primarily on assessment and psychological therapies (such as CBT or other talking therapies). In Pakistan, psychologists typically do not prescribe medication.
Both professionals play complementary and important roles in mental health care. Our team includes both.
What happens during the first psychiatric visit?
Your first visit is an assessment — a structured, confidential conversation. The psychiatrist will ask about your current difficulties, mental health and medical history, lifestyle, and personal goals. There is no judgement, only listening. Based on this evaluation, the doctor will explain what they found and, if appropriate, suggest a personalised treatment plan.
Do you provide inpatient psychiatric care?
Yes. Hayat Medical Centre offers both outpatient consultations and inpatient care. Inpatient admission may be recommended for individuals who would benefit from a structured, supervised environment. If you are looking for a psychiatric facility or what some people refer to as a mental hospital in Islamabad, our team can assess whether inpatient care is the right option for your situation.
How long does treatment take?
The duration of treatment varies depending on the individual, the condition, and the type of care recommended. Some people benefit from a short course of consultations; others may require longer-term support. Your psychiatrist will discuss a realistic timeline with you after your assessment. We do not make promises about outcomes — recovery is a personal journey and results will vary.
How do I book a mental health appointment?
You can book in three ways:
- Call: 0345-1511843
- WhatsApp: 0345-1511843
- Visit in person: House 07, Street 01, Chatha Bakhtawar, Islamabad
